A Heartbroken Farewell

On March 29th, 2013 Mythic Entertainment will be shutting down all online services associated with Play 4 Free Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes (WOH).

Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes

Launched in Beta just over a year ago, the free-to-play battle arena version of Warhammer Online was a grand experiment.  We were able to test new server technology, learn more about the free-to-play market, and engage in endless quick, down and dirty, three-way battles any time of day or night.  On all of these fronts, we were able to make great inroads and insights and deliver a fast and frenetic game. 

As a producer for this game from the start, I am proud of the hard work and effort that made the game possible and I feel sad that it is not able to carry on.  I think we created something special and I would not trade the time creating it or playing it (on all those Friday Fight Fests and anonymously almost every day) for anything. 

I hope that those who have played it at any time in the past will stick through to the end, enjoy the special pricing so you can try out everything before it goes, and try out a few of the special things that were still in our pipeline.

Final Words

Whether you just tried it out or have played it from the start of Beta, we thank you all for your patronage.  I hope you will all join us and celebrate the final moments of WOH.  See you online!

This week we wanted to give you a better chance to try out that Hero that you haven't purchased but are interested in playing. So we increased the number of free heroes available per week from 4 to 5!

Server Maintenance - 02/19

We will be bringing the servers offline today, Tuesday February 19th, at 2:00pm EST (1900 GMT) for server maintenance.

At this time we anticipate that the servers will be back online no later than 3:00pm EST (2000 GMT).

What's New in Wrath of Heroes?

In addtion to the new free character rotation for this week, we have a new hero; Myledia the Enchanting!

Myledia is here! This Daemonette has been sent by the Chaos God Slaanesh to bring pleasure and excess to the fields of battle.

The Chaos God Slaanesh is the god of lust, pleasure, and excess. Those that worship him dwell in the dark corners of the world, indulging their whims and desires as they see fit. All that Slaanesh touches is both indescribably attractive and horrifically corrupted, both attracting and repulsing any mortal that encounters it, and enemies of Slaanesh are often immobilized by their inability to comprehend the sights they are facing.

While all records of Daemons in the Empire are considered heretical and destroyed the moment that they are discovered, several Daemons have earned themselves a name amongst the population of the Empire. One such Daemon is Myledia, a Daemonette who has been terrorizing the lands of Talabecland for many years.

None are sure where her name originally came from, but she earned the title of 'The Enchanting' after she seduced the mayor of a small village just outside of Talabheim. When a passing witch hunter attempted to enter the village, the villagers erupted out of their homes, tearing him limb from limb, with a dark laughter echoing through the countryside. Nothing remains of the village now but the burned-out houses, while Myledia escaped and continues to roam through the countryside.

• Myledia's attacks deal magical damage, fueled by her dark god, and will devastate enemies who come close to her. Her Seduction Aura also reduces all damage she takes from enemies standing near her.
• Myledia's Tormenting Delusions can stagger an opponent in his tracks, while her Agonizing Strike will then deal extra damage against staggered targets. Make sure you use her abilities to inflict the greatest amount of pain!
• Many of Myledia's attacks deal damage to other targets near her. When fighting Myledia, attempt to stay at range and spread out to minimize the damage your group takes.

Patch 0.30 Goes Live

We will take the Wrath of Heroes servers offline today, Febuary 12th at 7:30am EST (12:30pm GMT) to implement patch 0.30. At the moment we expect the servers to be back online no later than 10:00am EST (15:00pm GMT).

The patch will deliver a new Hero and new Free Heroes.

This week another new hero has joined the line-up: Haurg Frostmaw. Haurg is an Ogre hero that has a icy touch. He snares enemies while causing them to take increased magical damage.
