What's New in Wrath of Heroes?

The holiday season is quickly approaching! Our developers want to wish all of you happy holidays, and give you the chance at getting your own holiday tree. A new Wood Elves hero, Kaelin Cullbranch is now available - surprise! As an extra holiday treat, Kaelin is even available for both Gold and Gems right from the start!
'Death to the despoilers of groves!' – Kaelin Cullbranch. This furious Dryad is the vanguard of the Wood Elf army, bringing the merciless wrath of Athel Loren to the battlefield.
Kailen Concept Art
The verdant realm of Athel Loren is an unforgiving wilderness ancient beyond measure. Here, where paths constantly shift and tree branches move to impale the unwary, an ominous watchfulness pervades. The eyes and ears of the forest span countless leagues, passing knowledge of the doings of other races back from the forest's eaves to its most secret heart. Athel Loren is aware - and it doesn't like what it sees.
The only outsiders that Athel Loren recognizes as allies are those elves who who left behind their Asur brethren and became the Wood Elves: Fierce hunters that act as both sword and shield to the sentient forest. The rest of its defenders are the spirits of the forest itself, and for some, their rage at outsiders will never be assuaged.
Kaelin Cullbranch is a dryad; a nature spirit whose natural form is taken from the semblance of Athel Loren's trees as they span the seasons. Though not a branchwraith, Kaelin's unyielding hatred of the races that chop and burn wood has enabled her to remain aware throughout the winter season when the majority of Athel Loren sleeps.

 Kaelin Image

Battle Strategy
  • Forest's Fury will significantly reduce the damage that Kaelin takes, but only when she's in her defensive Summer season. Don't expect it to help the same way when Winter is active - always keep track of her current season!
  • Her offensive Winter season not only increases Kaelin's damage done, but also constantly causes area damage around her. Having an alternate Mastery loadout prepared can turn her into a strong area attacker if you've got a good set of Tactics for it.
  • Kaelin is arguably the most complicated Hero in the game, able to quickly shift back and forth between offensive and defensive roles as the battle demands. Mastering her shifting Seasons is crucial to playing her well - don't be afraid to spend some time in Practice Mode!

What's New in Wrath of Heroes?

This week another new hero has joined the line-up: Grigori Medvezhiy. Grigori is an Empire hero that has a resistance to critical damage. He is a great team asset when you want to battle against any team that relies on critical damage dealers.
We also have a new free hero rotation. The 4 heroes joining the battles this week are:
  • Skeetk the Warlock Engineer
  • Conrad the Warrior Priest
  • Korith the Shadow Warrior
  • Nethys the Vampire

See you in the battles!

Patch 0.28 Goes Live

Update 8:45 am EST: The servers are currently offline.
We will take the Wrath of Heroes servers offline tomorrow, December 11th at 7:30am EST (12:30pm GMT) to implement patch 0.28. At the moment we expect the servers to be back online no later than 10:00am EST (15:00pm GMT).
The patch will deliver a new Hero, new Free Heroes and more.

Patch Changes

New on the Store

  • Grigori the Kislevite has been added to the Store.  See the Hero Lineup section for more information.
  • Ornate Chest: This item has been updated with additional contents.
  • Wood Chest: This item has been updated with additional contents.
  • Look for new items to appear on the store periodically!

Hero Lineup

Grigori is here! This veteran Kislevite warrior has joined his blade to the Empire army's cause.
  • Since he is inherently immune to being critically hit thanks to his passive Battle-Hardened ability, Grigori is an excellent counter to enemies who are playing crit-based Heroes, or who have built Mastery loadouts focused on critical hits.
  • Deadly Wound will set an enemy up for punishing attacks from Grigori's teammates - as long as they're ready for it. Communication is key!
  • Dazh's Glory is an excellent candidate for an alternate Mastery loadout for Grigori. When running with a healer-heavy team, the bonus from Dazh's Glory can turn the tide of a battle.

The following Heroes are considered free and available to all during this week:
  • Skeetk the Warlock Engineer
  • Conrad the Warrior Priest
  • Korith the Shadow Warrior
  • Nethys the Vampire

Note: Free to play Heroes change on a weekly basis.

The following Heroes are available for purchase on the store:
  • Aessa the White Lion
  • Albodi the Chosen
  • Amenadresh the Liche Priest
  • The Archivist, Chaos Scholar
  • Bax the Black Orc
  • Conrad the Warrior Priest
  • Drulg the Ogre
  • Durrig the Engineer
  • Felicia the Bright Wizard
  • Glowgob the Shaman
  • Grigori the Kislevite

Hero Changes

 Bonechewer
  • Bonechewer is no longer available for purchase on the Store (but can always be played by anyone who has already unlocked him).

Rydion
  • Piercing Lance: Fixed a bug that could allow this Tactic to remain active when not slotted.

  • Skeetk's passive "Prolonged by Skaven" effect has been removed, and replaced with "Murders Skaven".
  • Fixed a bug that caused problems with Skeetk's death animation.
  • Magnetic Burst: This ability is now correctly respects immunity to Pull effects.

Wilhelm
  • Wilhelm is no longer available for purchase on the Store (but can always be played by anyone who has already unlocked him).

Xuq'ls

Upcoming Hero: Grigori

'You are nothing, northman. You will die in the cold.' – Grigori Medvezhiy will join Wrath of Heroes tomorrow. Take a first look at the new Empire Hero.
Grigori
Northeast of the Empire lies the country of Kislev, standing just south of the Chaos Wastes. The people who live in this region are hardy people, strengthened by the cold of the lands that they live in, and hardened by the constant invasions from the North. They are known as Kislevites, and they are known to never back down from any challenge.
Grigori Medvezhiy had been born and raised as a blacksmith, and at age eight had begun to assist his father in the forge. During this time, there were several small incursions from the North into his village, but his father had always sent him to guard the children of the village, rather than letting him fight.
However, at the age of twelve, a large raid swept down upon the village, and Grigori saw his father cut down by a marauder with a curved blade. Grigori stepped forward, issuing a challenge to the much larger northman, who merely laughed at him. Grigori lunged forward, grabbing the larger man by the throat. The Northman's laughter turned to gasps as Grigori's vice-like grip crushed his throat.

What's New in Wrath of Heroes?

This week another new hero has joined the line-up: Skeetk Warptail. Skeetk is a Skaven hero that packs a lot of power if you make use of his static charges. Careful though; if you don't pay attention his static charge will explode!
We also have a new free hero rotation. The 4 heroes joining the battles this week are:
  • Xuq'ls the Daemon
  • Felicia the Bright Wizard
  • Zathis the Dark Elf
  • Olwyn the Dwarf

See you in the battles!

Skeetk's Abilities

Skeetk is almost here! This notorious Warlock Engineer brings the trademark Skaven blend of magic, technology, and mind-boggling insanity to the battlefield.
Skeetk's Abilities:
Warp Lightning – Deals damage and builds static charge.
Warp-Blast – Deals damage and builds static charge.
Warpstorm – Deals area damage and builds static charge.
Warp-Flux – Repeatedly deals damage over time.
Magnetic Burst – Deals damage and pulls enemy.
Passive:
Static Charge – Passive: Increases damage for each Static Charge, stacking up to 5 times.
Prolonged – Passive: Your abilities last longer per other skaven character in your group.

Battle Strategy
  • Skeetk becomes more and more powerful as his warpstone-powered contraptions charge up, but his gear is also wildly erratic. Don't let Static Charges linger for too long, or else they'll dissipate in the only manner that Skaven engineering is capable of - an uncontrolled explosion. Hysterically disastrous, to be certain, but disastrous nonetheless.
  • Slotting both Overcharged Warp-Power Accumulator and Modified Warp-Energy Condenser together gives Skeetk the greatest potential damage output by far...but also has the greatest chance of exploding in his face. Going this route means having to always pay split-second attention to Static Charges, but it also means dominating your enemies. How much risk are you willing to take?
  • Warpstorm is not necessarily worth using against a single target. However, when there's a group of enemies nearby, Skeetk can consume his Static Charges with Warp-Flux or Magnetic Burst, and then use Warpstorm to nigh-instantly fill his Static Charges back to their maximum.

Upcoming Hero: Skeetk

'Kill-kill the man-things!' - Skeetk Warptail will join Wrath of Heroes next week. Take a first look at the new Skaven Hero.
Skeetk Concept Art
Background:
All Skaven plot and scheme to achieve power, and those that belong to Clan Skyre are no exception. The Warlock Engineers that comprise this clan have stolen technology wherever they can get it, always striving to improve it and use it to their own nefarious purposes. Then, once they have perfected their new creations, or at least limited the number of catastrophic failures to an acceptable level, they sell their services as mercenaries to the other clans. This has given them an immense level of influence in all Skaven affairs.
Skeetk Warptail gained notoriety among his peers when, during a rather routine run through one of the many tunnels infesting his clan's home, he fell through a wall into a vast cavern. He quickly started taking stock of his surroundings and came across one of the largest single chunks of Warpstone he'd ever laid eyes on. Like any good Warlock Engineer, he immediately snatched it up and built a weapon around it.
Carrying this warpstone-powered contraption on his back, he has made a name for himself in Clan Skyre, and many Skaven now seek his services out specifically when asking for a Warlock Engineer.

What's New in Wrath of Heroes?

Patch 0.27 has arrived and another new hero has joined the line-up: Xuq'ls the Gibbering. This Horror of Tzeentch is our first Daemonic Hero. Though he has less hit points then the average hero, his Empowerment makes sure he is not ignored. There is a reason why many who have had the rare chance to see him in action are either mad or dead.
Patch 0.27 also brings us a new free hero rotation. The 4 heroes joining the battles this week are:
  • Durrig the Engineer
  • Korelei the Witch Elf
  • Ozgrot the Savage Orc Shaman
  • Serkhet the Tomb Scorpion

Hero Lineup

Xuq'ls is here! The first Daemon Hero has arrived to revel in the triumph of chaos over reality.
  • To play successfully as Xuq'ls, you must always be watching for Empowerment and must act quickly to react to it. Empowerment only lasts for a few moments once triggered, so don't let it go to waste!
  • Unstable Servants are potentially the most damaging use of Xuq'ls's Empowerment, but only if the enemy stays near them. If you think that the target is going to be more mobile, use Expel Energy instead.
  • Fire of Tzeentch deals more damage as Xuq'ls loses hit points - towards the end of a close fight, it will become one of Xuq'ls's best burst-damage attacks.

The following Heroes are considered free and available to all during this week:
  • Durrig the Engineer
  • Korelei the Witch Elf
  • Ozgrot the Savage Orc Shaman
  • Serkhet the Tomb Scorpion

Bonechewer

  • Precision: This Tactic now costs the correct amount of Mastery Points.

Malus Darkblade

  • The lobby page for Malus no longer attempts to link to the Store.

  • Bloodblade: Fixed a bug which caused this attack's critical hit chance bonus to be calculated incorrectly.

Serkhet

  • Crushing Grab: This ability is now correctly treated as a Root effect.
  • Dual Pincers: Fixed a bug that caused this ability's tooltip to erroneously display an "Area Damage" tag.
  • Pincer: Fixed a bug that caused this ability's tooltip to erroneously display an "Area Damage" tag.

Xuq'ls' Abilities

Xuq'ls is almost here! The first Daemon Hero will revel in the triumph of chaos over reality.
Xuq'ls's Abilities:
Blast – Deals damage.
Fire of Tzeentch – Deals damage and increases chance to grant Empowerment.
Surge of Power – Damage and snare.
Unstable Servant – Creates Minor Horror.
Expel Energy – Damage over time.
Passive:
Empowerment – Passive: Xuq'ls has a chance to obtain Empowerment for 5 seconds when he uses certain attacks, which is consumed to power his most potent abilities.
Murderer – Passive: You deal 15% more damage to High Elves.
Battle Strategy:

Upcoming Hero: Xuq'ls

'His gibbering will herald the end times.' – Albodi, the Scarred. Xuq'ls will join Wrath of Heroes next week. Take a first look at the new Daemonic Hero.
Xuq'ls Concept Art
Background:
In the far north, there lies a warped and barren wasteland, beyond the habitable areas of the world. Known as the Chaos Wastes, it is inhabited by the followers of the four gods of Chaos, the humans that have wandered too far from their lands and their humanity, and by the Daemonic servants of the gods themselves. It is a land devoid of hope or mercy, and only the suicidal venture there.
The Horror of Tzeentch Xiththlthlhluuq'phakn'ndhppeommn'naehlaebheeowirarthhhabls is one such denizen of these wastes. Known to mortals as Xuq'ls, he has served to spread the power of Tzeentch for centuries. Many believe him to simply be a legend, as very few have seen him and lived, and fewer still are the ones who have retained any grasp on their sanity.
All tales of Xuq'ls are different, with disagreements on his size, strength, and color. However, one part of the tale is consistent. Xuq'ls speaks constantly, both in mortal tongues and the long-forgotten tongues of Chaos, and his gibbering tears at the edges of your sanity. His madness has scarred itself into the mind of all who have faced him.

What's New in Wrath of Heroes?

A new Legendary Hero has joined our line-up: The Red Duke! The legendary vicious vampire count has a unquenchable thirst for blood and is only available for gold. Since our legendary heroes do not like to share anything; including attention, Malus Darkblade will no longer be able to be purchased for gold. However, there is a very rare chance he might pop out of a Ornate chest.
The new Free heroes this week are Bax, Glowgob, Volrik, and the Archivist. Also, Ozgrot will now be available in the store for purchase using gold.
See you in the battles!

The Red Duke's Abilities

The Red Duke's Abilities

Posted by Tim Chappell | 2012 Nov 4 13:37 -0500 GMT

The Red Duke is lurking in the shadows. The legendary hero of the Vampire Counts is out for blood!
The Red Duke's Abilities:
Red Fury – Damage and self healing.
Bloodbane – Sacrifices your hit points to deal high damage, increased against weakened targets.
Blood Frenzy – Sacrifices your hit points to deal high area damage.
Draw Blood – Area damage and self healing.
Shadow's Swiftness – Sprint, and increases dodge chance.
Passive:
The Hunger – Stacking: 15% chance on hit and 100% chance on kill to increase the Red Duke's maximum hit points by 10. Stacks up to 100 times.
Murderer – Passive: You deal more damage to Empire Heroes.

Battle Strategy
  • While he has several powerful abilities with no cooldowns, the Red Duke pays the price in blood - he must sacrifice some of his own hit points to use his potent Bloodblade and Blood Frenzy.
  • The Red Duke's passive effect allows his maximum hit points to get higher and higher. Get enough kills and he'll become a nigh-unstoppable force of death!
  • While Shadow's Swiftness can be used for a speed boost, don't forget that it also grants the Red Duke an almost-certain chance to dodge. Deciding whether to use it early to get into the fight quickly or save it for a close moment later may mean the difference between life and death - or, well, between undeath and death.

Ozgrot's Abilities

Get da WAAAGH goin'! Ozgrot is a magical ...
Ozgrot's Abilities:
Ozgrot Ability 1Brain Bursta – Deals random damage.
Ozgrot Ability 2Steal Yer Thunder – Random damage, and increases your damage.
Ozgrot Ability 3None For Yer – Blocks healing.
Ozgrot Ability 4Gork's Bellow – Random damage over time.
Ozgrot Ability 5Fist of Gork – Random area damage.
Passive:
Ozgrot Passive Ability 1Power of da Waaagh! – When Ozgrot hits a target, he has a 25% chance to immediately hit them again for 50% of the damage done.
Ozgrot Passive Ability 2Prolonged – Passive: Your abilities last longer per other Greenskin character in your group.
Battle Strategy
  • Most of Ozgrot's abilities deal random amount of damage. He can be enormously effective with a little luck, as long as you can accept the risk. No one ever accused him of being stable!
  • Keep the buff effect from Steal Yer Thunder active as much as possible. Opening the fight with this ability will give Ozgrot an immediate advantage; just be sure to maintain it.
  • As a ground-targeted effect, Ozgrot can place the Fists of Gork anywhere. This allows him to use it for area denial just as much as for damage - for example, dropping it on a flag will force enemies to either stay away from the flag, or accept taking heavy damage from the falling Fists.

Erratic, brutal, and indisputably a bit mad, this Savage Orc Shaman is a powerhouse of WAAAGH! magic.
